"Well, Julia is freshening up," Henry said tediously "She will take time, do you have any message for her?"
"Oh damn!" her bright blue eyes dimmed. "I must leave," she replied uneasily.
She turned around. Her white top shone under her lace black jacket as she rotated. Her fancy plaited hair plunked softly over Henry's face as she turned speedily. He could smell her hair, her perfume.
"Wait!" he shouted instantly.
The girl turned again, her skirt twirling, as she did. "Yes?" she spoke gently.
"What is your good name?" he asked.
"Excuse me?"she coughed.
"I need to tell Julia, right?" he rolled his eyes and nodded his head simultaneously.
"No, no ,no, no…not at all," she slid near to him and raised herself on her heels to be face-to-face with him. She stared into his eyes fiercely "Don't you dare tell her anything, just forget that I ever came…."
Henry was lost in her scent and her sweet sight. Her blue eyes were just mesmerizing.
"Just forget it…." she whispered and Henry's sight grew blurry as the distance between them increased and he lost focus of her blue eyes. He remained still for a while. His senses didn't seem to work.
"What's happening?" he said to himself and then he went back into his room.
He sat on his bed and lost himself for awhile in his mobile. After a while, Julia came out and then they both left to a take a of the campus.
Julia was dressed in a cyan midriff top and ripped navy jeans. She had tied her black hair in a high sleek manner with a blue rubber band.
Henry had joined the college just a week before Julia. Henry was more of an introvert and he hadn't seen much of the campus, so he was at the same level as Julia.
"So who is our third room-mate?"she asked him in an attempt to begin a conversation while they toured around.
"Frankly speaking, I don’t know," he replied "I haven't met the person yet, nor has he or she visited the room since I came."
"Strange." Julia nodded. Then they roved around the library. Julia wasn't much of a reader, but she surely liked writing. After that, they roamed around the canteen, had some food (which turned out to be bland) and then they went near the basketball court.
Julia found Henry very boring. She was cursing herself for the plan, but then at the same time, she wanted to know a bit more about him. The previous night had made her inquisitive, desperate to know more about him, about his past. As they reached the basketball court, Julia felt an instant desire to play basketball.
"Would you mind playing?" she asked Henry.
"Well I am not really a basketball player," he replied banally "but I can wait for you."
"You won't mind right?" she ran towards the court as he nodded.
Seven guys were playing basketball on the court, full of zeal and enthusiasm. Julia smiled for the first time that day when she saw basketball. She called out at a guy in red.
"Excuse me!" she screamed. "Can I join you guys for a game?"
As she ended, all the guys started laughing. A wave of giggles spread all over the court. The guy in red screamed "Enough!"
Julia felt a bit relieved. His back was facing towards her.
"Brother, she seems to be new," a guy standing beside her said.
"That is why she doesn't know the rules!" another guy added.
"I said enough, shut up!"the angry man shouted "You guys firstly abide to the rules, then teach the freshers, now get lost!" he charged again. The two guys left the court. Julia felt elated again.
Henry on the other side saw a bunch of people been crowded around the court. He ran towards the herd.
"What is happening?"he asked a guy.
"Some new girl has bumped into ……shh.. let me see," the guy replied rudely.
The crowd grew thicker, it was difficult for Henry to peep in. Julia didn't notice the crowd, she was adulated towards the charismatic guy in red.
"The perfect one…maybe" she mumbled slowly.
The guy's back was still turned towards her. Julia was desperate to face him. She could just see his back and his shadow. She also observed sweat drops dripping down from his head. The guy in red was heated up after the game. His jersey was full of sweat. He didn't turn, so Julia decided to face him. She walked towards him. She stood exactly behind him. She could smell him, his strength.
"Thanks" she said sweetly "Can I have the ball now? please…" she added.
Then again a wave of giggles spread amongst the crowd. The guy was lanky and fair. He had golden hair had a wide chest. He was dribbling the ball continuously.
"I think, you don't know who I am!" he roared and started dribbling angrily and the sound grew louder, and louder.
A hooting sound was heard all over. Julia's expressions changed completely. She sensed trouble. She started hoping for the best in her mind and she closed her eyes in fear. The guy turned and saw her in a weird position. He stopped the dribbling.
"Take this," he exclaimed and she opened her eyes. He wrathfully handed the ball to her.
"I give you one chance to prove yourself, to prove your acumen. I want a basket, in one go." He demanded.
Julia felt a bit relieved. It was a piece of cake for her. She had been playing basketball for a long time, but now she found herself in a difficult state. But she had faith in herself.
"Okay," she got ready. The crowd made a way for her and she stood in the middle of the court. She positioned herself well, and gave a shot.
Everyone was jeering, trying to de-motivate her. Henry had crossed his fingers. But she proved them all wrong, her shot directly went into the basket and she left everyone flabbergasted. The noises stopped suddenly and everyone left the court. Julia felt a sense of pride in her and Henry ran towards her. She hugged Henry and expressed her fear.
There was pitch silence on the court. The guy in red couldn’t reply. He ran angrily towards them and pushed Henry aside and pounced on Julia.
"You….how dare you interrupt me….." he began roaring.
Suddenly a guy came between them and took the beast aside and cooled him down. The guy in red silenced as the other guy had a pep talk with him.
The other guy ran towards Julia after he had a talk with the guy in red. He was in green and had worn a blue cap and black sunglasses.
When he reached near her, he stood dumbstruck. "Come on!"
Julia was annoyed again by his voice "What the…."
"Not you again...." he cut her off. The smile over his face faded and then he removed his glasses. The crystal greenish-blue eyes flashed in front of Julia and again she was lost.
"Okay listen whatever your name is…"he began "Don't mess up with Chris again, he doesn’t like anyone interrupting him between his practice. You are safe today only because of me, don’t dare to do the same thing again…"
"Oh mister!" she replied cruelly "Don’t act as if you have done a great job, I could have managed that guy….I was gonna thank you, but now I won't….." she puffed her face "First go and learn basic manners…."she said and then Henry dragged her aside.
"Why? Why did you?"she cried "I wanted to teach him a lesson."
"Enough for today," he shook her "do not put yourself at a greater risk."
She beat him "Didn't you know about those guys, their anger, why didn't you stop me dude?" she burst on him.
"Cool down… I am also new here."
"Yeah! I so wanna go home…." she wailed.
"Not so easily," Henry replied "I think so we ought to go out for a ride."
Julia thought for a while and then said "Okay, let us leave in an hour, I so need some fresh air."
After an hour, they sat in Henry's black sedan and Henry drove out of the huge gate of the University.
To be continued……
