“Can’t believe he’s going to be standing right there!” , my friend squealed excitedly, pointing to the mic. at the centre of the stage. And to this I had no response except an energetic nod of the head and a huge grin. I glanced at my entry pass for the tenth time that evening. “FEELINGS IN INDIA- WITH KANAN GILL” it said. I found it difficult to convince myself that my favourite and one of the best stand up comedians in the country would be performing in front of me for ninety good minutes, standing only about 10 meters away from me.
“HELLLOOOOO PUNNNEEEE!!” a voice boomed through the speakers, inviting hoots, whistles and applause from the audience, making my heart beat faster in anticipation! My eyes were now frozen on the stage. “PLEASE WELCOME ON STAGEEEE….. KANAAAANNN GILLLLL!!!”. The audience went wild. “HEY GUYS! HOW’RE YOU ALL DOING?”, he said in his usual charismatic way. All I could think was “OH MY GOD. IT IS HIM. AND HE IS IN FRONT OF ME.” Too shocked to even listen to what Kanan was saying, I spent the next ten minutes in complete oblivion of the jokes that were being shared. I finally snapped of my daze and started to pay rapt attention to the actual content of the show. I was determined to soak in every single moment of this experience. So the next seventy minutes (subtracting the ten minutes I spent in complete awe of him) were filled with many laughs (Of course. I mean, it’s a stand up comedy show. Duh.) discussions about relationships, nerds in engineering colleges and the reason why Kanan Gill was forced to be part of a Shaadi.com advertisement. What made this evening special for me was the fact that it was the first time I was attending a stand up comedy show and the comedian in question was one whom I considered the best among all the comedians I had known so far. The fact that we were the first ones he presented his brand new set-list to, made the experience all the more special.
I'm sure everyone has that one special experience in their lifetime where they get the opportunity to watch their idols live, right in front of their eyes. If you would like to share such an experience, ‘Whose blog is it anyway?’ is your platform!
